Sergeant Major Michael W. Charneske

              Sergeant Major Charneske was born on 10 December 1987 in Chicago, Illinois. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on 7 November 2006 and graduated from 1st Recruit Training Battalion, San Diego, California in February 2007.  Upon completion of Infantry Training Battalion, School of Infantry at Camp Pendleton, California, Private Charneske received the military occupational specialty of 0311.  He received orders to 2d Battalion, 8th Marines (2/8) at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina from April 2007 until October 2010.  During his time with 2/8, he held billets such as Rifleman and Fire Team Leader. He also completed two deployments; to Ramadi, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Helmond Province, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. During his time in 2/8 he achieved the rank of Corporal, and upon reenlistment received orders to Marine Security Guard School, Quantico, Virginia.     
              Corporal Charneske completed Marine Security Guard School in December 2010 and was sent to Marine Security Guard Detachment’s Baku, Azerbaijan; Prague, Czech Republic: and Lome, Togo. Corporal Charneske served one year at each posting holding billets as MWR/Ball NCO, Mess/Vehicle NCO, Supply/CBRN NCO, Training/Response NCO, Assistant Detachment Commander and Detachment Commander. While on the program Corporal Charneske was promoted to Sergeant and later meritoriously promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant and was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal for outstanding service as a Marine Security Guard.     
              Upon completion of the Marine Security Guard duty, Staff Sergeant Charneske received orders to 1st Battalion, 5th Marines (1/5), Camp Pendleton, California.  Conducting one deployment as an 81mm Mortar Section Leader as a part of Marine Rotational Force – Darwin, Australia, and one deployment as a Rifle Platoon Sergeant in support of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit Okinawa, Japan. Other billets held during his tour with 1/5 were 62 Area Guard Chief and Company Gunnery Sergeant.     
              In September 2016, Staff Sergeant Charneske received orders to 8TH&I, Marine Barracks, Washington D.C. where he was assigned to 3rd Platoon Sergeant, Company B and was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. While at Marine Barracks Washington Gunnery Sergeant Charneske was selected and assigned as the Silent Drill Platoon Sergeant representing the Marine Corps throughout the United States and abroad. 
              In March 2019, Gunnery Sergeant Charneske reported to Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego to serve as the G-3 Operations Chief.  In October 2021 Gunnery Sergeant Charneske was promoted to his present rank of First Sergeant and executed orders to 1st Intelligence Battalion, Camp Pendleton, California where he served as the Battlespace Surveillance Company First Sergeant. In October 2023, First Sergeant Charneske executed orders to Headquarters Battalion, 3rd Marine Division, Okinawa, Japan, where he served as the Headquarters Company First Sergeant. 
              In April 2024, Sergeant Major Charneske assumed his current role at the Combat Logistics Battalion 4 Command Senior Enlisted Leader.

              An advocate for continuous learning, Sergeant Major Charneske is a Senior Enlisted Professional Military Education graduate, holds a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration with an undergraduate certificate in Human Resources from American Military University, and is pursuing a Master's Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Corporate Finance from American Military University.

             Sergeant Major Charneske’s personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, w/ one gold star, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation w/ two gold stars, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal w/ one gold star, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
