 SERGEANT MAJOR IMHOTEP WOODBY

 

 Sergeant Major Imhotep Woodby was born in New York, NY.  He enlisted in the Marine Corps on 7 July 1998.  Following the completion of Recruit Training at MCRD Parris Island, he attended Marine Combat Training at Camp Geiger, NC.  His next assignment was Motor Transportation School at Fort Leonard Wood, MO.  While at Fort Leonard Wood, he was assigned the MOS 3531/3533, Motor Vehicle Operator/Logistics Vehicle System Operator.

From February 1999 until January 2002, he was assigned to Marine Wing Support Squadron, Marine Corps Air Station New River, in Jacksonville, NC.  While there he was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal, Corporal and Sergeant.  Sergeant Woodby served and participated in Dynamic Mix 2000 and Joint Task Force 6 conducting operations in marijuana eradication. Sergeant Woodby held the billet of Mobile Refuel Operator and Platoon Sergeant.

From January 2002 to April 2005, Sergeant Woodby attended Drill Instructor School at Parris Island, SC.  Upon graduation he was transferred to 3rd Battalion, Mike Company where he served seven cycles as a Drill Instructor.  His billets included Third Hat, Experienced Drill Instructor, and Martial Arts Instructor.  After successfully completing Drill Instructor Duty he was transferred back to the Fleet Marine Force

May 2005, Sergeant Woodby was transferred to Transportation Support Battalion, 3rd Force Service Support Group, Okinawa, Japan for duty as a Motor Vehicle Operator.  He held several billets including Platoon Sergeant, Martial Arts Instructor, and Corporals Course Instructor.  Sergeant Woodby was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant in November 2005.

While assigned to 3rd TSB, Transportation Support Company was attached to Combat Logistics Battalion 7 to deploy to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 5-7.1 from February to September 2006. During this deployment, Staff Sergeant Woodby held the billets of Security Team Commander, Convoy Commander, Assistant Convoy Commander and Martial Arts Instructor.  Upon his return to Okinawa and amid transferring back to TSB, his unit’s name was redesignated to Combat Logistics Battalion 4. Eager to get into the fight, CLB-4 deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 6-8.2 from August 2007 to March 2008. Staff Sergeant Woodby held the billets of Company Gunnery Sergeant, Battalion SACO, Anti-Terrorism Force Protection Chief, and MAI.

From May 2008 to September 2011, Staff Sergeant Woodby attended Marine Corps Security Guard School in Quantico, Virginia to be trained as a Detachment Commander.  Upon graduation Staff Sergeant Woodby was tasked to serve as the Detachment Commander for the detachment located in Guatemala City, Guatemala.  After 18 months he was relocated to Ljubljana, Slovenia, where he was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant in September 2010.  After successfully completing the MSG program he was transferred back to the Fleet Marine Force.

From October 2011 to June 2016, Gunnery Sergeant Woodby was attached to CLB-8/Combat Logistics Regiment 2 and deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom 13-01 from January to July 2013. While assigned to CLR-2 he held the billets of Truckmaster, Operations Chief, Motor Transportation Chief, Company Gunnery Sergeant, Company First Sergeant, and MAI.

In May 2014, Gunnery Sergeant Woodby was tasked with a Temporary Additional Duty assignment to Marine Corps Training Mission United Arab Emirates training to Fort Story, Virginia. Upon graduation he was sent to Al Ain, UAE to Advise the Emirate Drill Instructors on how to properly train their recruits. After 6 months of advising at the Recruit Training Regiment, he was sent to Dubai to advise the Logistics Battalion for 7 months.  Upon completion of his adviser duty, Gunnery Sergeant Woodby was transferred to 2nd Supply Battalion as the Operations Chief.  While at 2nd Supply BN Gunnery Sergeant Woodby was selected to the rank of First Sergeant in July 2016.

First Sergeant Woodby reported to 3d Radio Battalion, III MHG aboard MCB Hawaii during July 2016 to July 2019.  He held the billets of Bravo Company First Sergeant and H&S Company First Sergeant.

Upon completion of his duty in Hawaii he received orders to 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion where he served as the Charlie Company First Sergeant.  While serving as the Charlie Company First Sergeant he was selected to his current rank of Sergeant Major May of 2020.

May 2020 to February 2022 Sergeant Major Woodby served as the Squadron Sergeant Major for Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 364, Marine Aircraft Group 39, 3d Marine Aircraft Wing and deployed to Al Jaber AFB, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia in support of Operation Inherent Resolve while attached to Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force – Crisis Response – Central Command 21.2.M.

February 2022 to September 2023 Sergeant Major Woodby served as Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 36 Sergeant Major and acted as the Marine Aviation Group Sergeant Major for 3 and a half months.  Sergeant Major Woodby currently serves as the Combat Logistics Regiment 37 Sergeant Major.

Sergeant Major Woodby’s personal decorations and awards include: Meritorious Service Medal Gold Star in lieu of 2nd Award, The Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with 2 Gold Star in lieu of 3rd Award, the Army Achievement Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
