Sergeant Major Dennis R. Turner Jr., was raised in Staten Island, N.Y. He enlisted in the Marine Corps and attended recruit training at MCRD Parris Island, S. C. in August of 1998. Sergeant Major Turner received training at Marine Combat Training, School of Infantry - East and Supply Warehouseman School, Marine Corps Combat Service Support Schools at Camp Johnson, N.C.
Upon completion of his training, he reported to Combat Service Support Group 3 (CSSG-3), 3rd Force Service Support Group, MCB, HI to serve as the Warehouse clerk and Shipping clerk. Sergeant Major Turner was later transferred to the Staff Noncommissioned Officer Academy to serve as the Warehouse Chief.
In March of 2002, Sergeant Major Turner reported to Marine Wing Support Group 27 (MWSG-27), MCAS Cherry Point, N.C. to serve as the S-4 Noncommissioned Officer in Charge, Group Color Sergeant, and Marine Corps Martial Arts Instructor Trainer.
In July of 2004, Sergeant Major Turner served as a Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor for Mike Company, Third Recruit Training Battalion, MCRD Parris Island, S.C. and Inspector Instructor for the 6th Marine Corps District. Sergeant Major Turner was meritoriously promoted to Staff Sergeant in January of 2007.
In September of 2007, Sergeant Major Turner reported to 1st Supply Battalion, Camp Pendleton, CA to serve as the Company Gunnery Sergeant for Supply Company. Sergeant Major Turner deployed in August 2008 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom as the Company Gunnery Sergeant. Upon returning from Iraq, he was assigned as the Staff Noncommissioned Officer in Charge for the Deployed Support Unit.
In March of 2010, Sergeant Major Turner served at American Embassies Conakry, The Republic of Guinea and Islamabad, Pakistan as a Marine Security Guard Detachment Commander.
In May of 2013, Sergeant Major Turner was Frocked to the rank of First Sergeant and reported to Headquarters Battalion, 3d Marine Division. He served as Company First Sergeant for Truck Company and Communications Company.
In June 2016, Sergeant Major Turner reported to 1st Marine Raider Battalion, Marine Special Operations Command and served as Company First Sergeant, Marine Special Operations Company Bravo. He deployed in July 2017 to Camp Navarro, Philippines, and served as the Senior Enlisted Advisor for Special Operations Task Force 511.2 in support of counter terrorism operations during Operation Pacific Eagle - Philippines (OPE-P).
In August of 2018, Sergeant Major Turner reported to 1st Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division to serve as the Battalion Sergeant Major. He deployed in April 2018 to Darwin, Australia in support of Marine Rotational Force - Darwin and served as the Sergeant Major for the Ground Combat Element. In June of 2020, he deployed with 1st Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment in support of the Southwest Border Mission.
In March of 2021, Sergeant Major Turner reported to the Staff Noncommissioned Officer Academy, Okinawa, Japan where he served as Director.
In August of 2023, Sergeant Major Turner reported to 3d Marine Logistics Group, Okinawa, Japan, where he currently serves as the Group Command Senior Enlisted Leader.
Sergeant Major Turner has a Bachelor's of Science in Social Psychology from Park University and Master's Degree in Homeland Security from Trident University. Sergeant Major Turner's personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with 2 gold star in lieu of second award, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with 1 gold star in lieu of second award, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with three gold stars in lieu of fourth award.
