Captain Joseph N. DeHoogh

Captain Joseph DeHoogh was born into a career military family at Travis Air Force Base California.  Moving numerous times while growing up, his father retired from the United States Air Force in Oklahoma.  He refers to Stillwater, Oklahoma as home.  He graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1985 with a degree in Biomedical Science.  In 1989, he graduated from the University of Oklahoma College Of Dentistry and was commissioned into the United States Navy.

 

Captain DeHoogh reported to his first duty station at Naval Hospital San Diego and completed a General Practice Residency in Dentistry in 1990.  In 2000, he fulfilled an Advanced Clinical Program in Prosthodontics at the Medical College of Virginia.

 

Following his General Practice Residency, he received orders to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 74 (NMCB 74), Gulfport, Mississippi.  In 1991, he deployed with the Battalion to Saudi Arabia in support of Desert Shield/Desert Storm.  Additionally, he deployed to Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico in 1992.  After his initial tour, he entered private dental practice in Oklahoma.  He returned to active duty in 1996 assigned to Branch Dental Clinic Quantico, Virginia.  In 2001, he reported as Division Officer, Branch Dental Clinic Naval Air Station Brunswick, Maine.  While stationed in Maine, he volunteered for a South American UNITAS deployment on board the USS PORTLAND (LSD 37).  In 2004, he was assigned as a Prosthodontist onboard the USS NIMITZ (CVN 68) serving as Departmental Division Officer.  While assigned there, he deployed to the Western Pacific in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom/Operation Enduring Freedom.

 

In 2006, DeHoogh transferred to Recruit Training Center, Naval Health Clinic, Great Lakes, Illinois.  He served as Head, Osborne Dental Clinic Restorative Department until 2008 when he volunteered for an Individual Augmentee assignment to Expeditionary Medical Facility, Kuwait in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.  He returned to Great Lakes as Department Head of the Navy's sole recruit dental in-processing clinic, USS Red Rover 1523 Branch Dental Clinic.  In 2010, he was assigned to 2d Dental Battalion/Naval Dental Center, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.  His initial duty was Clinic Director Branch Dental Clinics Osborne/H1 and later assumed the duties as Director for Dental Services.  In August 2014, he reported to 1st Dental Battalion Camp Pendleton, 23rd Dental Company, Twenty-Nine Palms, California as Prosthodontic Department Head.  In July 2015, he received orders to Naval Medical Center Portsmouth as the Associate Director and Director for Dental Services.  In November 2017, he reported to Naval Health Clinic Quantico as Director for Dental Services.  In May 2018, he was assigned as the Executive Officer of 2d Dental Battalion/Naval Dental Center, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

 

Captain DeHoogh has earned and qualified as Fleet Marine Force Warfare Officer, Seabee Combat Warfare Specialist, and Surface Warfare Dental Department Officer.  His personal awards include three Meritorious Service Medals, three Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, three Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, and various other unit and campaign awards.
