A small memorial on top of Mount Suribachi, Iwo To, Japan, states “Sgt. William Homer Genaust, Marine Combat Cameraman.” Genaust was the videographer who captured the famous flag-raising video footage at the mountain’s summit on Feb. 23, 1945 and was killed in action during the Battle of Iwo Jima March 4, 1945. The 73rd Reunion of Honor ceremony, held March 24, 2018 at Iwo To, formerly known as Iwo Jima, commemorated those who fought and died during the Battle of Iwo Jima.
