Sergeant Major Aaron R. Jones was born September 4, 1983, in Raleigh, North Carolina and attended Smithfield-Selma High school. He graduated in 2002.
He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 2002 and graduated from Recruit Training Parris Island of November the same year. He attended Marine Combat Training at Camp Geiger, and was sent to Fort Leonardwood, Missouri to be trained as a 3531 Motor Vehicle Operator.
PFC Jones was assigned to 2nd Transportation Support Battalion Camp Lejeune, North Carolina where he worked for 6 months before being augmented to the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit. He deployed twice in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and remained with the MEU for the duration of his first enlistment.
Upon re-enlistment, Sgt Jones was assigned to HQMC Arlington, Virginia in March of 2007, and was assigned as National Capital Region Roadmaster. In January 2008, Sgt Jones attended the Sergeants Resident Course in Quantico, Virginia.
In August of 2009, Sgt Jones was assigned to 8th Communication Battalion Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. In November of the same year, he attended the Motor Transport Non-Commissioned Officers course located at Camp Johnson, North Carolina. While at 8th Communication Battalion, Sgt Jones was assigned at the Truckmaster and Assistant Operations Chief. In December of 2010, he was sent TAD to Marine Headquarters Group located at Camp Lejeune to attend Marine Advisors Course and subsequently deployed as an Enlisted Advisor to the Afghanistan Border Police in 2011.
SSgt Jones then received orders in October of 2012 to attend Basic Recruiters Course located in San Diego, California. Upon graduation, SSgt Jones was transferred to 1st Marine Corps Recruiting District Recruiting Station, New Jersey where he remained until December 2015.
January of 2016, SSgt Jones reported to duty at 8th Engineer Support Battalion as a Motor Transportation Operations Chief. In April of 2016, SSgt Jones attended the Motor Transportation Operations Chief Course located at Camp Johnson, North Carolina. In January of 2017, SSgt Jones graduated the Career Course Seminar Program located at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
In August of 2017, Gunnery Sergeant Jones was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant and was transferred to 3d Marine Raider Support Battalion, Marine Raider Support Group, MARFORSOC to fill the billet MOS of H&S Company Gunnery Sergeant/1st Sergeant. He graduated Advanced School in September of 2018. Gunnery Sergeant Jones also deployed to Erbil, Iraq in support of Operation Inherent Resolve with the Special Operations Task Force-Syria.
August 2021 1stSgt Jones arrived to 7th Communication Battalion in support of Defensive Cyber Operations- Internal Defensive Measures Company 1st Sgt. In July 2022 1stSgt Jones assumed duties as Service Company First Sergeant. In July of 2023 1stSgt Jones assumed duties as the Unit Senior Enlisted Leader for Headquarters Company, 7th Communication Battalion. In May of 2025 Sergeant Major Jones assumed his current duties as 3D Maintenance Battalion Command Senior Enlisted Leader.
Sergeant Major Jones attained his Bachelors in Project Management from Liberty University in 2023. First Sergeant Jones' personal awards include the Navy Commendation Medal w/2Gold Stars and “C” device, Navy Marine Corps Achievement Medal w/2 Gold Stars and the Combat Action Ribbon.
