Colonel Paul B. Bock

Colonel Bock enlisted in the Marine Corps in November of 1990 and completed recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina.  He attended the School of Infantry at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina receiving the Mortarman MOS.

In July 1991, Private First Class Bock reported to Marine Corps Security Force Company, Panama serving as a Basic Security Guard, Corporal of the Guard, and Sergeant of the Guard.  Upon reassignment to 3d Battalion, 6th Marines in January of 1993, Corporal Bock deployed with CVSPMAGTF, participating in operations: Provide Promise, Deny Flight, Southern Watch and Support Democracy.

In January of 1994, Corporal Bock reported to 2d Battalion, 4th Marines, serving as the Mortar Section Leader for Weapons Platoon, Company E.  Subsequently promoted to the rank of Sergeant in August of 1994, and assigned to a Line Platoon, where Sergeant Bock served as a Rifle Squad Leader.  Sergeant Bock deployed in support of JTF 160 and BLT 2/6, with the 26th MEU, participating in operations: Sea Signal, Deny Flight, and Joint Decisive Endeavor.

In August of 1996, Sergeant Bock reported to Headquarters and Service Battalion, Quantico, Virginia serving as the Police Sergeant and Building Manager for the Marine Corps Combat Development Command and subsequently selected for the MECEP.

In August of 1998, Sergeant Bock reported to the NROTC at Boston University.  Promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant in January of 1999, he completed Officer Candidates School in August of 1999.  Staff Sergeant Bock earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Massachusetts at Boston Business School in July of 2001, earning his commission as a Second Lieutenant.  He attended the Basic Officers Course in September of 2001 and reported for duty to the Marine Corps Engineer School in April of 2002 for training as a Combat Engineer Officer.

In August of 2002, Second Lieutenant Bock reported to the 1st Combat Engineer Battalion where he served as 1st Platoon Commander, Charlie Company, deploying in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF), attached to 1st Tank Battalion, Regimental Combat Team (RCT) 7.  Upon his return from OIF, he served as the Company Executive Officer for Engineer Support Company, selected for the Special Education Program.

In May of 2005, First Lieutenant Bock reported to the Naval Postgraduate School.  In July of 2007, he received a Master of Science in Management from the Business School.

In July of 2007, Captain Bock reported to Manpower Plans and Policy Division, Manpower and Reserve Affairs as a Manpower Management Officer.  He served as both the Enlisted Career Force Planner and the Selective Reenlistment Bonus Program Manager.

In June of 2010, Captain Bock reported to 1st Combat Engineer Battalion, serving as the Headquarters and Service Company Commander.  In September of 2010, he assumed the duties as the Line Company Commander in direct support of RCT 2 and RCT 8 during the Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) 10.2 deployment.  In March of 2011, he assumed the duties of the Assistant Battalion Operations Officer.  Captain Bock assumed the duties of the Battalion Operations Officer in January of 2012, deploying with 1st Combat Engineer Battalion in support of OEF 12.1.

In June of 2013, Major Bock received orders to the 4th Marine Corps District, where he assumed command of Recruiting Station Frederick.  Major Bock served as the Commanding Officer of Recruiting Station Frederick for a three-year period.  From August 2016 to June of 2017, Major Bock was a student at the Marine Corps Command and Staff College, receiving orders to 3d MLG.

From July of 2017 to June of 2019, Lieutenant Colonel Bock served as a G-3 Regional Planner, the G-3 OpsO, and the Deputy AC/S G-3 of 3d MLG.  From June of 2019 to June of 2021, Lieutenant Colonel Bock served as the Commanding Officer for 9th Engineer Support Battalion.

From July of 2021 to June of 2022, Lieutenant Colonel Bock was a student at the Naval War College, Newport, Rhode Island, for Top Level School.  He received a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies.

Colonel Bock served on the Joint Staff from August of 2022 to June of 2024. During this period, he served as a Team Chief within the J7's Deployable Training Division out of Suffolk, VA. The primary combatant commands that he supported were USTRANSCOM, USNORTHCOM, and USSOUTHCOM.  Additionally, he supported tier 1 exercises with USFK and USPACFLT.

Colonel Bock’s personal awards include: the Meritorious Service Medal with two gold stars in lieu of third award, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Combat Distinguishing Device, and two gold stars in lieu of third award, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with two gold stars in lieu of third award, and the Combat Action Ribbon with one gold star in lieu of second award.
