Jerry E. Lopez

Sergeant Major Lopez was born in San Antonio, Texas. Shortly after graduating from Oliver Wendell Holmes High School he enlisted in the Marine Corps in January 1996 as a 2311 Ammunition Technician.

Attending Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, California, he was meritoriously promoted to Private First Class and graduated from 3rd Battalion, Mike Company, Platoon 3082.  Following graduation from Basic Training Private First Class Lopez reported to Redstone Arsenal, in Alabama for Ammunition Technician’s School.

In August 1996 Lance Corporal Lopez reported to First Fleet Service Support Group First Supply Battalion, Camp Pendleton, California, where he served as Ammunition Technician for Ammunition Company in 43 area Las Pulgas.  

After his tour in Camp Pendleton; Sergeant Lopez was assigned to Recruiting Station Dallas, Texas from 2001 to 2004, serving as a canvassing recruiter at Recruiting Sub-Station North Dallas.  During his tour Sergeant Lopez distinguished himself by being awarded as the Rookie Recruiter of the Year.  

After successfully completing recruiting duty Staff Sergeant Lopez was assigned to Marine Corps Base, Kaneohe, Hawaii where he served as the Ammunition Chief and Marine Corps Martial Arts Program instructor for Bravo Battery, 1st Battalion 12th Marines.  While at Marine Corps Base Kaneohe he participated in various deployments to include a tour to Okinawa, Japan from July 2005 to January 2006.

Volunteering to support Operation Enduring Freedom Gunnery Sergeant Lopez deployed to Afghanistan where he was embedded as a senior enlisted mentor/adviser from November 2006 to August 2007 with an Afghan Infantry Company conducting counter insurgency and combat operations. 

In September 2007 Gunnery Sergeant Lopez was reassigned to Inspector Instructor duty in Rome, Georgia.  Gunnery Sergeant Lopez was assigned as the Operations and Training Chief for Detachment 1 Ammunition Company.  There he was responsible for mentoring of the reserve Operations and Training Chief, the Toys for Tots program in the local area, all Color Guard ceremonies and funeral that took place in the surrounding areas.  He also participated in numerous training events, community events, and the BRAC closure of the Home Training Center in Rome, Georgia where the unit was relocated to Dobbins Air Reserve Base in Marietta, Georgia until his frocking to First Sergeant in April 2010.   

In April of 2010, First Sergeant Lopez was assigned to 2D Marine Logistics Group, Combat Logistics Regiment 27.  First Sergeant Lopez was assigned to Communications Company for five months before he was moved to serve as the Company First Sergeant for Headquarters and Service Company, 2D Marine Logistics Group (Forward) on Camp Leatherneck, Afghanistan.   After his brief tour of 12 months in Afghanistan; First Sergeant filled the billet as the Company First Sergeant for Food Service Company, Combat Logistics Regiment 27. In December 2013 he received orders to 3d Intel Bn, Okinawa, Japan, III MEF Headquarters Group. 

In December 2013, First Sergeant Lopez was assigned to III MEF Headquarters Group, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Headquarters and Service Company as the Company First Sergeant from December 2013 to February 2016.

Presently, Sergeant Major Lopez assumed the duties as the Sergeant Major of 3d Supply Battalion, Combat Logistics Regiment-35, Okinawa Japan. 

PERSONAL DECORATIONS: Meritorious Service Medal (Gold Star in lieu of Second Award), Navy Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal with “V” device, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal (6th award), Outstanding Volunteer Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, and Marine Corps Recruiting Ribbon.
