Lieutenant Colonel Gillett was commissioned in the Marine Corps upon graduation from Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas in May 2005. Following completion of The Basic School, Second Lieutenant Gillett reported to The Basic Engineer Officer Course in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina and was subsequently assigned to 7th Engineer Support Battalion in Camp Pendleton California. In May 2006 he was assigned as the 1st Platoon Commander, Security Company, Combat Logistics Battalion-1 and deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in August 2006.
Upon redeployment to CONUS, First Lieutenant Gillett served as 1st Platoon Commander and Executive Officer for Company A, 7th Engineer Support Battalion. First Lieutenant Gillett was then assigned as the Operations and Intelligence Officer for Border Transition Team 5/6/2 and deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in August 2008.
Upon redeployment, Captain Gillett was assigned as the Detachment Officer in Charge of 7th Engineer Support Battalion’s security element and deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in November 2009. During that deployment he also served as the Executive Officer for Combat Logistics Company 111 where he oversaw planning and execution of mobility operations in support of Operation Mostarak in Marjah, Afghanistan.
After returning from deployment Captain Gillett executed orders to Expeditionary Warfare School where he served as a student from August 2010 to May 2011. He then executed orders to Charleston, South Carolina where he assumed the duties of Marine Officer Instructor at The Citadel from June 2011 to July 2014. During this period, Captain Gillett also served as a Platoon Commander at Officer Candidates School during the 2012 and 2013 summer increments.
In July 2014 Captain Gillett executed orders to 2d Combat Engineer Battalion where he served as the Company Commander for Mobility Assault Company until June 2015 when he was assigned as the Battalion Operations Officer and was promoted to the rank of Major in August 2015. In September 2016, Major Gillett was assigned as the 2d Combat Engineer Battalion Executive Officer and served in that billet until May 2017.
In June 2017 Major Gillett was assigned as the Commander Officer, Recruiting Station Fort Lauderdale and served in that billet until June 2020. In July 2020 he was promoted to his current rank and was assigned to Installations and Logistics, Headquarters Marine Corps as the Engineer Occupational Field Sponsor and served in that billet until May 2021.
Lieutenant Colonel Gillett is slated to assume the command of 9th Engineer Support Battalion in in June 2021.
