Sergeant Major Charles Peoples

Sergeant Major Charles Peoples enlisted in the Marine Corps on October 1995 and completed recruit training at MCRD Parris Island, South Carolina.  Following recruit training; Sergeant Major Peoples attended Marine Combat Training at Camp Geiger and then to Marine Aviation Operations School at NAS Meridian, MS. Upon completion, he was assigned the MOS 7041, Aviation Operations Specialist. 

September 1996, Sergeant Major Peoples reported to Marine Aircraft Group 31, Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 251, MCAS Beaufort, SC, as an Operations Clerk.  While at VMFA-251, Sergeant Major Peoples deployed with Carrier Air-Wing One aboard the USS George Washington in support of Operation Southern Watch.  In October of 1999 Sergeant Major Peoples while with VMFA-251 deployed as the Operations Chief on the USS John F. Kennedy in support of Operation Southern Watch.  In September 2001, Sergeant Major Peoples deployed as the Operations Chief on the USS Theodore Roosevelt in Support of Operation Enduring Freedom. In 2002 Sergeant Major Peoples was the receipt of the Marine Corps Aviation Association; Jack W. Demmond Award, Ground Aviation Marine of the Year. 


In September of 2002, Sergeant Major Peoples reported to United States Forces Korea, Maine Forces Korea as the G-3 Training Chief & Current Operations Chief.  While stationed at United States Forces Korea he was promoted to Staff Sergeant on June 2003.
In September of 2003, Sergeant Major Peoples reported to Marine Aviation Training Support Squadron 1, Meridian, MS; as a Marine Aviation Operations Specialist Instructor. In January of 2006 Sergeant Major Peoples was named the 2005 NAS Meridian Citizen of the Year.


In June of 2006, Sergeant Major Peoples reported to VMR Detachment Belle Chasse, Louisiana, as the SNCOIC, Operations Chief and Transport Aircrewman for the UC-12B, UC-35C/D.  In April 2007, Sergeant Major Peoples was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant.  In September 2007 Sergeant Major Peoples was deployed with HMLA-773, as the Operations Chief for OIF 06-08.


In September 2008, Sergeant Major Peoples reported to Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron, MCAS Beaufort SC. Where he served as the Operations Chief, Training Chief, Squadron Gunnery Sergeant, Transport Aircrewman, and NATOPS Instructor for UC-12B.
In December 2011, Sergeant Major Peoples was selected as the USMC Funeral Director and was transferred to Marine Barracks Washington D.C.


In April 2012, Sergeant Major Peoples was frocked to First Sergeant and was transferred to Guard Company, Marine Barracks Washington D.C.  In September 2013, Sergeant Major Peoples was transferred to Company B.
In October 2014, Sergeant Major Peoples reported to serve as the First Sergeant for Company E, 2d Battalion, 3d Marines. In January 2016, Sergeant Major Peoples reported to serve as the First Sergeant for Headquarters Company, 3d Marine Regiment.


In May 2017 Sergeant Major Peoples reported to 2d Low Altitude Air Defense Battalion, MACG-28, 2d MAW MCAS Cherry Point NC as the Battalion Sergeant Major. In December 2018 Sergeant Major Peoples reported as the Battalion Sergeant Major  for 2d Maintenance Battalion, CLR-25, 2D MLG Camp Lejeune NC.
In August 2020 Sergeant Major reported into his current billet as the Battalion Sergeant Major of 3d Supply Battalion, 3D MLG, Camp Kinser, Okinawa Japan.


Sergeant Major Peoples’ personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal with two gold stars in lieu of third award, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with four gold stars in lieu of fifth award, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with two gold stars in lieu of third award and the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal with bronze star.
